Electric Chinese Orchestra is Justin Gerardy and Bill Patton. It all began in 2004 when Gerardy and Patton started making music with Gerardy's circuit bent toys. At the time, Gerardy's neighbor Joshua Jones was also learning to circuit bend and would often battle toys. Jones left town for California after playing a show for the opening of OKOK with Gerardy and Patton. About a year after Jones left, Gerardy and Patton started playing shows regularly and adopted the current name. Joined by guest musicians (Christopher Hydinger), ECO is a curious amalgam of musical experiments.

Shows are half performance art and half rock and roll. Starting with a barrage of toys (usually about 10-15) and a couple loopers and effects, running through guitar amps and sub woofers, we go from there. Each performance is unique and improvisational. If you come with expectations, you are begging for disappointment. Due to the nature of the instrumentation, notion is thrown out the window. Performance is both love and war between musician and instrument. The result is a sort of surprise and response system for developing movements. Consequently, (and for better or worse) we will try to record as many shows as possible and post them here. If you like the sound and want to download the files, feel free. Your only obligation is to come and see a show. Which brings me to the next column.
